What's new

Fixed: Korean Subtitles are not working.

Resolved a critical, long-standing bug where players' game saves were randomly deleted on specific computers.

Changed the timer behavior for speedrunners so that the game clock officially stops the moment the credits roll, rather than waiting for the end screen.

Added invisible safety boundaries to troublesome areas of the map—specifically around the chimney and the approach to Furnitureland—to stop the hammer from getting permanently glitched or stuck.

Description

Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a physics-based hiking game developed by Bennett Foddy on October 6, 2017. In the game, a character is stuck in a large metal cauldron with a Yosemite hammer in his hand that is used to grip items and climb. There are no checkpoints, so when you slip from the mountain, you have to climb again by using your skills. This makes the game even harder because most modern games allow players to save their progress. You can download Getting Over It for your PC and play this game with your mouse or trackpad.

Graphics

Getting Over It doesn’t rely on detailed graphics or realistic visuals. The game uses simple, low-poly shapes for the mountain, the objects you climb over, and the character himself. Bennett Foddy built the game alone, so the visual style stays basic throughout — there are no high-resolution textures or lighting effects.

This works in the game’s favor because the focus stays on the physics and your movements rather than the scenery. The objects you interact with, like rocks, stairs, and scaffolding, are easy to identify even with the simple design. Because the graphics are lightweight, the game runs smoothly even on older PCs, which matters more here than visual detail since one wrong swing can cost you your progress. You can read the history and full detailed information on Wikipedia.

How to Play

This game is dependent on just a mouse or trackpad (on laptops). You have to swing the mouse to hook the edges and move forward. However, if your hammer grips the bottom of the mountain, you have to go back slightly, grip the edge, and climb. At some points, you have to move between rocks, on the right or left side, on the wooden stairs, the chimney, and snow rocks. Once you reach near space, the game is over, and your completion time will appear on the screen.

The thing that you learn from this game is patience. If you fall, do not rush; it’s better to move carefully so the hammer hits the right position.
